Q. What are Acceptable Residential Asphalt
Shingles?
A. Acceptable Residential (Non-Asbestos) Asphalt Roofing Shingles
that are segregated, non-hazardous and uncontaminated materials. Asphalt shingles may include nails
and tar paper backing. Midwest Shingle Recycling recognizes that customers may, from time to time, have small amounts of non-hazardoous
paper, plastic, metal, and wood mixed with the recyclable shingle material.
Midwest Shingle Recycling and its processing facilities will not accept loads
of roofing material when more than 50% of the load contains non-shingle or non-recyclable materials.
At this time, MSR can only accept asphalt shingles. For other materials, such as tile, cedar shake
or rolled roofing, contact your local government to find other solutions for recycling.
